Job Description

This is a Highway Maintenance Supervisor (HMS) position and is responsible for the management and maintenance of the Interstate and Primary road system in the Urbana, IA area. This HMS position supervises 16 full-time staff and 14 seasonal staff and is responsible for all the associated highway maintenance facilities, equipment supplies and materials in this area. This person works closely with law enforcement, other agencies and other highway maintenance personnel.

CDL: Must possess a valid Commercial Learner's Permit upon hire. Within 30 calendar days following appointment, a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License with the required endorsements and applicable restrictions must be obtained and maintained in order to continue employment.

Requires a pre-employment drug screen and will require ongoing participation in the employer's random drug and alcohol testing program and will be subject to the regulations regarding the Federal drug and alcohol testing program.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must respond to emergency situations as required.

  • Some overnight travel may be required.

  • Shift: Mon - Fri 7am - 3:30pm. Hours may vary and position is subject to call for emergency conditions 24 hours hours a day including nights, weekends and holidays.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Experience equal to eight years of full-time highway maintenance work, highway construction work or highway materials inspections work;

OR

an equivalent combination of education and experience substituting one year (thirty semester hours or the equivalent) of college or technical school coursework in business administration, construction technology/management, or engineering for one year of the required experience to a maximum substitution of four years;

OR

employees withcurrentcontinuous experience in the state executive branch that includes supervisory experience equal to one year of full-time work in the area of highway maintenance or construction.

Additional Qualification Requirements
