This role strives to provide immediate feedback to engineers on testing of new prototype parts and failure analysis for warranty and feedback to engineers on potential areas of re-design.Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.1. Perform metallurgical tests on prototype and failed parts to assist Welding Engineer in failure analysis. This consists of grinding and polishing metallurgical samples, calibration, and use of optical emission spectrometer to determine chemical.2. Consult with other departments to answer welding procedure questions, welding productivity, blue print questions, questions about lab testing capabilities, welding processes, welder training, welding safety, and personal protection equipment.3. Train new welders in all welding processes (fill in for full time instructor). This instruction is 90 hours in length, 45 hours of classroom and 45 hours of hands on training. Classroom instruction includes blueprint reading, job safety analysis instruction, weld quality acceptance, welding symbols, wires and gases, and process theory.4. Write failure analysis reports for engineering personnel explaining the testing methods conducted, observations, cause of failure, and recommendations. Reports include charts, graphs, and photographs.5. Evaluate internal and external applicants for welding positions. Direct welding tests, blue print tests, and measuring tests.6.
