Your Responsibilities

As the Factory Engineering Manager , at John Deere Paton located in Paton, IA , you will plan, execute, and manage Factory Engineering responsibilities to align and achieve the strategic and tactical quality & manufacturing goals to meet customer needs in a highly complex manufacturing environment. In addition, you will:

  • Provide direction for engineering and wage technician personnel and establish processes for the purpose of delivering quality products when the customer requires it in a safe and productive manner.

  • Build an engaged and inclusive work culture through the coaching and development of employees.

  • Analyze information and specify the methods and process steps, as well as the plant, machinery, and equipment, required to design and continuously improve manufacturing or materials processes and process systems to deliver the end product within specified cost and quality parameters.

  • Carry out inspections to evaluate the quality of engineering works and/or the integrity of existing installations or structures, and specify the remedial works needed to ensure conformance with specifications and regulatory requirements.

  • Lead/drive the development, justification, installation and startup of new processes, machine tools, robots, and facilities consistent with factory or division plans

  • Develop and communicate the function's strategy and business plan; explain the relationship to the broader organization's mission, vision, and values; motivate people to commit to these and to do extraordinary things to achieve local business goals.

  • Drive Lean Manufacturing through the John Deere Business Operating System Strategy

What Skills You Need

  • 4 or more years of experience in a position supporting factory processes and/or personnel (i.e. Quality Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer, Design Engineering, Factory Automation, etc.)

  • 3 or more years of experience investigating, analyzing, and resolving various system, part, people, or process issues to correct deficiencies, reduce costs, and improve processes/performance.

  • 2 or more years of experience with standard quality tools such as FMEA (Failure Modes Effect Analysis), SPC (Statistical Process Control), Root Cause Analysis, Control Plan Development, and Corrective Action Request (CAR)

  • 2 or more years of experience working with MES systems, Smart Connected Factory Solutions, torque tooling, and mistake-proofing

  • 2 or more years of experience with shop floor manufacturing (Production employees), incentive pay systems, and work measurement

  • Demonstrated commitment to developing talent, formally or informally (interns, EDP’s, mentorship, ERG’s, etc.)

What Makes You Stand Out

  • 2 or more years of experience in supervision and/or management of individuals or teams (i.e. Module Leader, Production Supervisor, etc.)

  • 2 or more years of experience of project management experience – Execution of Capacity Projects, Factory Master Planning, and PDP Execution

  • 2 or more years of experience demonstrating ability to lead change without direct authority

  • 2 or more years of experience leveraging technology to implement process controls or improve business processes

  • Demonstrated leader of diversity, equity and inclusion

  • Experience supporting both weld and assembly manufacturing processes

  • Advanced degree (i.e. MBA, Masters Data/Analytics, Masters Engineering, etc.)

Education

Ideally you will have a degree or equivalent related work experience in the following:

  • Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline and 5 years equivalent work experience
