Job Title Substitute Blackshirt

Reports to Auditorium Manager

Position Purpose

Under the direction of the Auditorium Manager, to independently manage system controls, within the Norwalk Performing Arts Center, or any broadcasting location, as well as other duties as required.

Essential Performance Responsibilities

  • To ensure the professionalism of a for-hire technician;

  • To carry out all duties regularly assigned to the Blackshirts;

  • Thorough understanding of the operations of NPAC, as well as other facilities within the District;

  • Ability to direct students and other staff members when tasked as leadership;

  • Helps to ensure the safety of students, staff, and the public while serving as leadership;

  • Assists students with verifying that every production is ready to begin, and no issues have been acknowledged;

  • Is available to come in when tasks arise as appointed by the Auditorium Manager;

  • Understands and is knowledgeable of all District policies and procedures to ensure safety throughout the District;

  • Willing to be able to help teach students in order to help build their knowledge and understanding of the operations of the NPAC.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Extensive knowledge of live streaming broadcast systems and operations;

  • Extensive knowledge of theatrical event and musical concert technical production;

  • Knowledge of the proper audio mixing methods;

  • Knowledge of the proper methods of lighting;

  • Knowledge of the proper methods of the ability to serve as the Presentation Operator;

  • High proficiency in the ability to Produce a Broadcast and/or recording;

  • High proficiency in the knowledge of fixing cables;

  • Knowledgeable of the process that occurs backstage including but not limited to rigging, fly rail, tool operation, and overall safety;

  • Ability to manage an event with no supervision.

  • Must be able to pass a drug test;

  • Must have served in a similar role in a similar scenario;

  • Must be able to demonstrate qualifications for the task assigned;

  • Must be a self starter, and willing to see the job to its completion;

  • Must stay on task with no interruptions for extended periods of time;

  • Motor Vehicle Operator’s License, and must have independent access to a means of transportation;

  • Must be able to work early or late depending upon assignment;

  • Must have a professional maturity and mentality;

  • Must dress appropriately, as well as provide their own gloves and flashlight.

Physical Requirements

  • Be able to stand, walk, and be on feet for excessive periods of time;

  • Be able and willing to lift items that weigh in excess of 50 pounds by yourself;

  • Be able to push, pull, kneel, squat, sit, and have the dexterity to perform awkward duties.

Working Conditions

  • Be able to work in dark and loud environments for extended periods of time;

  • Ability to work at heights;

  • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions.

Terms of Employment

Opportunities will follow the events calendar. This results in a temporary or as-needed position. Duties could include sports coverage, concerts or similar events, rentals, and summer upkeep.

Evaluation

Continued employment is contingent upon satisfactory completion of duties as assigned.
