Location Description Michael Foods, Inc. located in Norwalk, Iowa is a southern suburb in the Des Moines, Iowa metropolitan area. We are known for knowing our neighbors and enjoying a great quality of life! Our location produces high quality precooked egg patties as well as various French Toast products. Responsibilities OVERVIEW: The Sanitation Manager will develop and direct the sanitation activities at the Norwalk and Lenox Michael Foods, Inc. facilities. The Sanitation Manager will work directly with the Norwalk and Lenox Sanitation Supervisors to direct sanitation activities. They will protect the MFI brands through standardized and sustainable processes that will deliver sanitation programs that are efficient, effective and consistent. The sanitation Manager is a member of both plant leadership teams and will lead, develop and coach all personnel involved with sanitation of their department/area to ensure proper cleaning and sanitizing procedures are followed. This person will report to the FSQ Director for the Plants. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Demonstrate procedure and standards compliance – MFI, FSMA and USDA. Provide oversight of sanitation programs and knowledgeable of the following: Cleaning the entire facility to a microbiological level Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS) Environmental cleaning Operational cleaning Special event cleaning – i.e. construction, incident response Preoperational inspection programs Plant janitorial/housekeeping Work directly with chemical provider to address any identified corrective actions. Provide insight into the responsibilities and performance of Sanitation Supervisors. Demonstrated knowledge and utilization of cleaning chemistry (chemicals). Develop, validate and verify SSOP’s and work instructions. Assist with applying wet cleaning techniques following the 7 Steps of Wet Sanitation process. Knowledge of Clean in Place (CIP) and Clean Out of Place (COP) cleaning techniques. Assist in managing sanitation aspects of construction events. Demonstrate audit and regulatory compliance. Participate as a technical subject matter expert during the Food Safety and Quality Surveys, when responding to regulatory non-compliances, when evaluating sanitation vendors, and during third party audits of sanitation practices. Validate, verify, and monitor sanitation systems and requirements. Responsible for monitoring sanitation KPIs including assisting the plants in corrective action. Ensure compliance with HACCP prerequisite programs: Sanitation GMP’s Manage plant zoning / separation. Oversight of personnel safety requirements. Assist in developing sanitation budget. Monitor staff and execute sanitation principles. Coach and mentor Sanitation personnel. Provide research, guidance and technical support to plant control in areas of sanitation. Manage cross-functional relationships and influence with operations, maintenance and engineering to drive food safety and sanitation objectives. Partner with Norwalk and Lenox to develop thorough environmental non-compliance investigations and reports. #firstinpeople Qualifications KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: 1. Bachelor’s of Science degree in Microbiology, Food Science/Food Technology or related field preferred. 2. A minimum of 7 years of experience in sanitation of a food manufacturing environment. 3. .Knowledge of relevant federal, state, and local laws, rules and regulations. 5.Skills in identifying sanitation problems and providing workable solutions. 6. Must have a strong knowledge and understanding of Food Safety/HACCP/HARPC, GMP’s, and Sanitary design/controls 7. Strong continuous improvement knowledge. 8. Excellent computer skills in Office, SharePoint, SAP, 9. Must have excellent communication, interpersonal and team building skills. 10. Able to work flexible hours (weekends) as required. 11. Ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects in different plant locations. 12. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. 13. Willing to travel up to 20% of the time.
