Operator- Job Description
Hours
Work approximately 50 hours per week during months with no ground freezing. Days of work are typically Monday through Friday.
Definition
Operate a horizontal earth boring machine for installation of conduit and other materials. Operate locator to ensure proper depth and direction of all drilling. Operate excavator to locate existing utilities and other potential hazards as well as earth restoration. Assist with directing Laborers in their daily duties. Operate semis and other transportation vehicles and trailers.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
This job involves daily use of heavy equipment in potentially hazardous conditions.
Proper use of drill, excavator, locator, and all other tools and equipment to ensure safety of self, co-workers, and the public.
Regulate rotary speed and downward pressure according to the type of rock being drilled.
Verify depths and alignments of boring positions.
Monitor drilling operations, checking gauges and listening to equipment to assess drilling conditions and to determine the need to adjust drilling or alter equipment.
Start, stop, and control drilling speed of machines.
Select the appropriate drill for the job, using knowledge of rock or soil conditions.
Select and attach drill bits and drill rods, adding more rods as hole depths increase, and changing drill bits as needed.
Assist with general labor duties as needed.
This job require working outdoors, exposed to all weather conditions.
Wear Common Protective or Safety Equipment such as Glasses, Gloves, Hearing Protection, and Hard Hats as required. Wear reflective clothing at all times.
Conduct self professionally with the public and represent the company in a positive manner.
Work as a team member with 1 to 10 people at a time.
Assume the leadership role when Foreman is absent and make decisions in accordance with understood expectations.
Most work is performed in central Iowa, but some travel and overnight stays will be required.
Competencies Required
Mechanical Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.

Education, Experience, and Special Requirements
High school diploma or GED.
Minimum 2 years on-the-job experience.
CDL Employer can assist you obtain CDL if you currently do not have one, All you need to do is obtain your CDL Permit at the DOT and then employer will pay for you to get trained and complete CDL Training.
After 90 days Simple IRA available employer will match 3% Since employer does not offer Health Benefits, After 90 days you will have $500 a month to use towards insurance costs or keep the money
Compensation: $24 per hour starting after 90 days hourly increase negotiable depending on experience.
