Natural Science Lab Associate

Category/Level: PSS/3 (9-month contract)

Start Date: December 2018

Basic Function: To prepare materials needed for chemistry and possibly biology laboratory experiments, to order supplies and equipment, to maintain equipment, to maintain an inventory of laboratory supplies and chemicals, to coordinate the disposal of laboratory waste. To practice with laboratory best practices and comply with relevant state and federal regulations.

Prepare equipment and materials for laboratory classes in chemistry and biology. Insure proper cleaning and maintenance of laboratories and stockrooms. Maintain records of material usage and material needs (inventory lists).Perform needed maintenance of equipment used in laboratories.Obtain bid prices and place purchase orders for laboratory materials and equipment.Maintain SDS sheet files for all chemicals used in the Division. Assist with hazardous waste management and records.Proctor classes and labs and perform other tasks as required by Division Head.

Coordinate the duties of workstudy students assigned to the Division.

Qualifications: Experience in chemistry laboratory settings, coursework in chemistry and a two-year degree or higher with excellent communication and organizational skills are required.
