Description

Corteva Agriscience seeks a student for a full-time internship within our global Data Science and Informatics group working on soil informatics product development for applications in sustainable agriculture. We are aggressively building digital soil information capability to support Corteva’s mission to increase the resilience of our global food system.

This role will work among a team of soil science, data science, engineering, and digital solutions experts to enable sustainable decision support solutions focused on soil, water, and climate. The intern should be familiar with soil landscape and environmental data, machine learning and deep learning-based approaches, and some capability with implementing these on large geospatial datasets in Linux and cloud-based environments.

Responsibilities - What You'll Do:

  • Develop digital soil information and models.

  • Hands-on integration of various data and sensor components including data clean up, alignment, normalization and ETL pipeline development.

  • Evolve and deploy our core machine learning/deep learning algorithms to enable highly optimized models to be delivered to our research customers.

  • Applied testing and validation of developed compute solutions under field conditions while documenting learnings for further tooling development.

Qualifications

Qualifications - What You'll Bring:

  • Currently enrolled in a graduate education program pursuing (or planning to pursue) a Ph.D. or M.S. in Soil Science, Environmental Science, Civil/Geotechnical Engineering, or related scientific discipline. Ideal candidate must have completed graduate level coursework in geographic information systems, pedometrics, statistics, and machine learning.

  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Programming skills in Python or R in linux environments

  • Familiarity with open source geospatial tools including Qgis, GeoPandas, Rasterio and GDAL

  • Understanding of soil functional and biological processes

  • Interest in learning new technologies, latest ML algorithms, and scalable programming techniques.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a can-do attitude with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced dynamic environment. Experience in research, life sciences, or in data science is a plus.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work as part of a global team and, at times, independently while appropriately prioritizing tasks.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English are required.

Nice-to-have:

  • Deep understanding of data processing and analysis algorithms.

  • Exposure to remote sensing or hydrological models.
