Corteva Agriscience™, Agriculture Division of DowDuPont™ is recruiting for an experienced molecular biology professional to join our team in Johnston, Iowa as a Senior Research Associate. In this role, you will serve as a member of the Agronomic Traits Discovery team focused on the identification, modification and determination of the mode-of-action of gene leads to improve agronomic performance of crop plants. The SRA will participate in all phases of execution (prioritization, planning, data collection, data analysis and reporting) of experiments designed to meet research objectives of the group.

The SRA will work in conjunction with Senior Research Scientists to execute on project goals consistent with research and business unit strategy to deliver improved agronomic performance through genome edited and transgenic solutions.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Work in a team involved in the discovery, characterization and optimization of gene leads for improved agronomic performance.

  • Work with team members to develop and implement experimental designs and protocols

  • Collaborate and coordinate research activities with team and different functional groups

  • Collaborate with limited supervision to the implementation and analysis of experiments, utilizing a variety of molecular biology techniques, aimed at characterizing the mode-of-action of advanced gene leads and discovering novel leads

  • Conduct experiments to identify and validate key genetic variability and sequence variation for specific gene leads in germplasm

  • Carry out genetic studies in greenhouse and fields

  • Compile and analyze experimental data, prepare technical reports and give group presentations.

  • Implements and monitors safe working practices

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s degree in plant biology, molecular biology, genetics or related scientific field plus a minimum of 4-6 years industry related experience in plant biotechnology fields required.

COMPETENCIES/EXPERIENCE:

  • We are seeking a highly motivated and creative individual with experience in the application of genetic and molecular approaches to the identification, modification and characterization of target gene leads

  • Demonstrated proficiency in molecular biology techniques including gene editing, planning and executing experiments, and interpreting experimental results

  • Excellent time management skills, including the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, and ability to work independently required

  • A strong work ethic and the ability to work in team settings with strong interpersonal, organizational, record keeping, supervisory and communication skills are also necessary

  • Solid experience with sequence manipulations using common bioinformatics tools, molecular biology software, data visualization and Microsoft Office is required
