Job Summary:

Responsible for cleaning and maintaining the church building and grounds and operating the fleet vehicle for Salvation Army purposes.

Responsibilities

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Operate and maintain a mower, trimmer, and snow thrower.

  • Operate and maintain a carpet cleaner, vacuum cleaner, and perform light handiwork.

  • Inventory and sufficiently stock janitorial supplies--including proper storage of chemicals and other hazardous materials and maintain equipment (including tools.)

  • Maintain all facilities floor surfaces: sweep, mop, vacuum, and carpet cleaning per schedule.

  • Empty all trash receptacles and remove all garbage/waste from building per schedule.

  • Complete light plumbing, fixture repairs and replacements, painting, and wall hanging.

  • Wall clocks and smoke detector maintenance .

  • Clean all restrooms, removing trash, washing commodes and urinals, stall partitions, and sinks per schedule, latches, and knobs, mirrors, odor removal with janitorial products provided.

  • General cleaning, disinfecting, maintenance and organization of the Corps properties.

  • Ensure Program rooms and chapel are set and organized per schedule and events.

  • Yard upkeep, mowing, weed control, garbage cleanup, snow removal from door entrances. All trash around building premises per schedule.

  • Janitor’s closet and equipment upkeep, including mower, weed trimmer, snow thrower, etc.

  • Vehicle maintenance, regular cleaning, service record upkeep, maintain driver’s logs. Food and programs pickups. Other job-related details as assigned.

  • Moving boxes and furniture pieces as assigned.

  • Report all building-related damages or issues to the front desk for prompt servicing.

  • General building apartments cleaning and maintenance details as assigned.

  • Work-related pickups and deliveries per schedule of given using fleet vehicles.

  • Supervise & utilize assigned community service workers or volunteers to complete assign duties.

  • Maintain positive work atmosphere through appropriate conflict management, courteous demeanor, and professional and appropriate communication practices.

  • Maintain compliance in The Salvation Army’s “Safe from Harm” Certification.

  • Other special projects and duties as assigned and related to the position.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

Candidates must have a passion for fulfilling the mission of The Salvation Army and must be articulate in presenting the same to others.

Candidates must successfully pass the pre-employment background inquiry and annual motor vehicle check with a valid driver’s license.

Previous cleaning and janitorial experience required with professional references.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.

Skills:

  • Comply with office janitorial standards and observe occupational and public-safety standards for all property occupants.

  • Observe COVID-19 safety protocols.

  • Can work in reasonably stressful environments, sometimes with limited time allowance.

  • Ability to follow specific instructions from administrators and complete assignments in a reasonable time.

  • Follow organizational policies and protocols.

  • Ability to efficiently and effectively manage people and projects successfully.

  • Team player, self-starter, and perform well with minimal supervision.

  • Must have an interest and ability to work with people of diverse racial, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds in a sensitive and culturally appropriate manner.

  • Written and verbal communication skills, including experience or capacity to demonstrate positive interpersonal skills and work as a cooperative team member.

  • Basic proficiency and experience in related computer equipment to include email, MS Office applications, Internet and Social Media platforms.

  • Must be able to work days, evenings, weekends and holidays as necessary. Especially in emergent situations.

Physical Demands/ Work Environment:

This position is required to do moderate physical work. In order to successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the individual is regularly required to lift forty plus pounds, bend`, twist, carry, move, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, stand for an extended period of time and frequently required to reach with and use arms and hands as required in operating equipment such as Salvation Army vehicles. Specific vision abilities for this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to focus. The work environment for this position includes a diverse environment with moderate to high noise level.
