HERSCHEL PARTS is currently searching for a Machine Operator in our Section Production Department at our facility located in Indianola, Iowa.
Sets up and operates a variety of metal fabricating machines such as Coiner, Facer, Grinder and Wheelabrator to produce high quality sickle sections that will meet or exceed customer requirements. Reads and interprets blueprints and job orders to produce parts according to specifications, tooling instructions and job order to determine machine set-up, production methods, and sequence of operation. Responsible for determining correct speeds and feeds and knowledge of when to change grinding wheels.
Essential Functions of the Job:
Read blueprints or job orders for product specifications such as dimensions and tolerances and tooling instructions such as fixtures and feed rates, and determines sequence of operations and insures deviations are corrected to quality specifications.
Prepares first parts for review.
Runs production order while monitoring quality of product. Depending on which machines may be running this process, which is performed on several machines simultaneously, may be done with or without another operator assisting.
Changes out stones, tool holders, starters, coin presses and anvils.
Maintains machinery by following daily maintenance schedule.
Cleans up immediate work area and equipment daily.
Accurately records time sheets and work order information.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA's):
Able to read, write and comprehend manufacturing documents such as blueprints, routers, bill of materials and set-up sheets.
Able to use calipers, hardness testers, scales, gauges, micrometers and test coolant.
Knowledge of shop math and ability to use practical application of fractions and decimals.
Knowledge and ability to set up and operate assigned machines, speeds and feeds.
Able to communicate effectively, both verbal and written instructions.
Able to perform multiple tasks at the same time.
Able to solve problems and perform regular machine troubleshooting.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED. 1 yr. to 3 yr. experience in operation of machines preferred.
Work performed in a non-climate controlled metal manufacturing production environment, with frequent twisting, turning, reaching, bending, stooping and frequent standing for extended periods of time. Occasional (2 to 3 times per day) lifting, pushing or pulling of up to 60 pounds alone and/or with mechanical assistance. Requires sufficient manual dexterity and visual acuity to identify required material and operate a variety of metal fabricating machines following established safety protocol.
