POSITION SUMMARY

Grinds and chips raw castings to remove riser pads, parting line flash, ingates, and impinged sand. Cleans ID off cored holes by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Positions workpiece manually or by using jib of crane.
  • Inserts selected grinding wheel or cutting chisel into portable grinder or power hammer.
  • Positions and manually guides tool along specified guidelines on edge or surface of workpiece.
  • Grinds small parts on snag grinder.
  • Removes sharp edges or burrs.
  • Chips or grinds out pits or cracks.
  • Sharpens chisels and dresses grinding wheels.
  • Sorts castings by material onto heat-treat pallets or into crates, depending on heat-treat process.

``` - Operates electric hoist and forklift to assist in loading or moving materials and products.

``` - Inspects castings for defects and decides if defect will be ground out, welded, or scrapped. - Applies die penetrate to casting to inspect parts for cracks.

``` - Performs all work in a safety conscious manner. Be aware of dangers and take all appropriate counter measures to protect yourself and others around you. - Wear all the PPE that is required. Ear plugs, respirator and steel toe boots.

``` - Responsible to maintain a clean and safe work area consistent with the Companys housekeeping policies.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High School Diploma, GED or prior experience in foundry or manufacturing environment preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, blueprints, correspondence, and memos. Ability to write correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to management and company associates.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written or oral instructions. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to react and respond positively to change.
