Purfoods Sanitation Associate 2nd shift in Grinnell, Iowa
First and Second Shift Sanitation Associates will have a focus area of either the Kitchen, Pack Room, or Warehouse/General areas of the building but may also help or provide backup for any of these areas. Associates must become familiar with and follow internal Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP) and ensure FDA & USDA guidelines regarding allergens and food contact surfaces are maintained.
2nd shift: Monday to Friday, 3:30pm to 12:00am (this shift includes a shift pay differential)
Understand work flow processes and sanitation needs for focus area supported (e.g., Kitchen, Pack Room, Warehouse/General areas)
Help clean and ensure all machines and food surfaces meet FDA, USDA, and internal sanitation standards. This includes helping wipe down machines and surfaces during meal changes. Must be careful not to touch food contact surfaces when doing various sanitation tasks
Deliver dirty items (carts, totes, scoops, etc.) to the dishroom for cleaning
Break down boxes and other containers
Regularly empty trashcans and transport waste outside to trash compactor and receptacles
Continually squeegee and clean debris off floors
Monitor rooms for condensation and wipe down doors, walls, ceiling, etc. as needed
Regularly remove expired food from RTE and help trash unusable food products as assigned
Properly use and maintain cleaning equipment and chemicals
Help with general housekeeping and organization in the plant
Follow and encourage others to follow all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs)
May help clean and maintain bathrooms, hand wash stations, or other general areas (e.g., break room, etc.)
May help clean around exterior of the building as needed
May help in other areas of the plant as needed
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
Observation and initiative skills
Good communication skills
Attention to detail as sanitation programs are key to preventing listeria, ecoli, and other potential bacteria problems
Able to do tasks without disturbing assembly line or other workers
Willingness to cross-train and help in other areas as needed

Experience working in refrigerated environments
Previous food sanitation experience a plus
Physical stamina to walk and stand on concrete floors for up to 8-10 hours
Regular lifting of 20-40+ lbs
Requires reaching/grasping/bending/twisting
Able to use cleaning chemicals
Able to work in a variety of environments – warm, cold (35-40 degrees), wet, and outdoors
