Cargill Chemical Unload Technician in Fort Dodge, Iowa

This full time position is in Ft Dodge, IA however please expect receiving calls from a 952 area code in case you are considered. Relocation assistance is not provided.

Position Overview:

The BulkChemical Unloader position is responsible for unloading hazardous bulk chemicals and managing chemical totes. Monitor and maintain adequate bulk chemical inventories. Coordinate with the Utilities, Refinery, Mill and Feed departments to keep their tanks supplied. Work with the Purchasing and Transportation departments to maintain adequate incoming supply and manage truck schedules. Ensure safe and efficient operation while adhering to Cargill Policies and government regulations.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Unload hazardous chemicals from trucks. Manage and change out hazardous chemical totes for internal customers. Manage warehouse chemical inventories for safe and efficient warehouse operations. Transfer chemicals to facility departments via pipeline transfer

  • Coordinate with plant departments, distribution, purchasing, truck transport and maintenance groups to design trucking schedules, transfer schedules and personal work schedules. Determine and communicate facility chemical usages and needs to Purchasing Department. Make decisions and solve problems based on job knowledge, which includes safety, costs and customer needs

  • Troubleshoot, inspect and maintain all associated equipment. General sanitation of work areas. Generate and complete preventive maintenance and work order requests

  • Develop and keep current safe work procedures for work activities

  • Identify ways to measure and improve Bulk Chemical Unloader system performance. Work with others to implement new work processes

  • Comply with appropriate government regulations and Cargill Policies and procedures which include but are not limited to, environmental, safety, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, Department of Transportation, Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point and Good Management Practice’s

  • Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated and self-directed and work in a fast-paced environment

  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Right to work in the U.S. that is not based solely on possession of a student visa or a visa sponsored by a third-party employer.

  • Cargill requires that employees be a minimum of 18 years old to work in a plant facility

  • Ability to perform physical job duties which may include bending, lifting up to 50lbs, kneeling, climbing, crawling, and twisting safely, with or without a reasonable accommodation

  • Ability to work in varied indoor and outdoor conditions which may include heat, cold, dust, loud noise, etc., with the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) including a respirator

  • Ability to work in elevated areas (4 feet and above)

  • Ability to understand and communicate in English (verbal/written)

  • High School diploma or Equivalent

  • Basic use of a computer

  • Ability to work overtime including weekends, holidays, or different shifts with advance notice

  • At least 1 year of experience in production related work

Preferred Qualifications

  • Forklift certified

  • Basic use of a computer and typing skills

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft office software, with an emphasis on Excel and Word
