Ryerson Operations Manager | Eldridge in Eldridge, Iowa

Currently, Ryerson’s Eldridge, IA facility is seeking a solutions-oriented Operations Manager.

The ideal candidate will have experience leading others to operational excellence while focusing on team safety, delivering a quality product, eliminating waste, developing effective and skilled teams, and meeting budgeted production and operational metrics. In addition to overseeing daily operations, there is significant value placed on strategic long-term vision to ensure continued success of the facility.

Responsibilities:

  • Promote and demonstrate a safe work environment (complying with EPA/OSHA regulations); Follows all safety metrics and remains in compliance with safety training, OSHA/EPA regulations and reporting requirements

  • Responsible for expense management and financial performance of plant operations; Accounts payable coding and approvals

  • Understands the organization’s financial processes to prepare, justify and administer the annual operating plan

  • Develop and distribute SMART goals to drive performance management consistently and fairly across direct/indirect reports

  • Applies organizational policies and ensures adherence to area procedures at the site level

  • Fleet and logistics management

  • Management of production uptime for maximum equipment utilization

  • Oversees maintenance activities of the facility

  • Maximize raw material usage to minimize scrap

  • Develop and maintain internal and external customers providing best in class customer service

  • Fixed asset management

  • Annual capital budget forecasting and management

  • Ensure employee development and positive employee relations while displaying a commitment to lead

  • Payroll approval responsibilities for hourly operations personnel

  • Effectively communicate with others to provide solutions and promote teamwork amongst business units (i.e. sales, purchasing, human resources, logistics, credit, corporate operations, etc.)

  • Oversee or assist with capital projects in assigned service center

  • Recommend, review and approve promotions, dismissals or disciplinary actions for operations employees at assigned site

  • Other duties as required

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 3 years management experience or 7+ year’s progressively responsible experience as an operations leader, with specific experience in lean manufacturing, asset utilization, data analysis, and team development

  • Ability to manage and thrive within ambiguity, while working in an extremely fast paced environment

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Well-developed interpersonal skills; the ability to establish trust and remain flexible in style and approach; lead with a can-do attitude

  • Empowers employees to make decisions and do the right thing for the business within their scope of responsibility

  • Understands how to lead change within dynamic environments

Specialized knowledge for performance of job:

  • Fluent in Excel (formulas, PivotTables, charts, conditional formatting, etc.) and PowerPoint (ability to create a professional presentation in a short amount of time)

  • Excellent conflict resolution and decision-making abilities

  • Strong diagnostic, problem solving, and analytical skills

  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and manage time efficiently
