VMware Staff Technologist- Kubernetes Technical Advocate - Opportunity for Working Remotely in Des Moines, Iowa
The Elevator Pitch: Why will you enjoy this new opportunity?
The Technical Advocacy team at VMware is looking for a Technical Advocate focused on Kubernetes, who will foster the relationship between VMware Tanzu products, open source projects, and software engineers, globally. VMware Tanzu provides an essential, ubiquitous digital foundation for all workloads. Tanzu and our VMware-led open source projects activate customers to build on that foundation by bringing speed, stability and security to multi-cloud software delivery. Our product portfolio is based on well-formed building blocks and a commitment to open source alignment—promising customers choice and transparency. Our proven patterns and technical expertise enable customers to build and operate a modern software supply chain, run cloud native infrastructure and manage applications on Kubernetes at scale. Combining your passion for community building, writing, speaking, and technical expertise, you will help advance VMware’s standing within the open source community and help open source contributors, customers, and other members in the community know more about the Kubernetes centric offerings Tanzu has to offer within their Kubernetes journey.
What is the primary need, technical challenge, and/or problem you will be responsible for?
You will be responsible for fostering the relationship between Tanzu products, open source projects, and software engineers, globally. A Technical Advocate promotes standards and good engineering practices by actively engaging with Kubernetes and open source communities, raising awareness of the company’s Kubernetes-centric activities, and guiding and educating those engineers that use Tanzu’s open source offerings. This is a highly technical team, dedicated to open and honest communication, world-class software, and strong community citizenship. In this position, you will help developers, operators, and architects understand how the Tanzu Platform systems and adjacent open source projects and tools can be used to support their work.
What type of work will you be doing? What assignments or requirements will you be performing on a regular basis?
We expect you to:
Develop hands-on expertise with Tanzu products and related open source tools and projects in the Kubernetes ecosystem.
Frequently speak at conferences and user groups (virtually for now) as it relates to developing and deploying applications using Kubernetes.
Speak at Tanzu events and forums, such as SpringOne, SpringOne Tour, and Tanzu.TV, and at other external events.
Speak at customer sites (virtually for now) to demonstrate how to use our technologies.
Create code samples, presentations, blog posts, workshops and/or podcasts that capture how to use Kubernetes.
Work with engineering and community engagement teams to create demo scenarios that highlight the benefits of using Kubernetes as part of the software development lifecycle.
Advise on technology trends in collaboration with the Marketing org.
Work with partners to showcase how our technologies work together.
Work effectively with a remote and distributed team.
What is leadership like for this role? What is the structure and culture of the team like?
The hiring manager for this role is Tasha Isenberg, Senior Manager of the VMware Technical Advocacy team (Pivotal Technical Advocacy team prior to the acquisition of Pivotal by VMware). Tasha intently focuses on supporting her team through their various projects and workloads. When Tasha is not working, she is spending time with her daughters and husband or cooking up some kind of delicious Italian dish.
The larger Technical Advocacy team is made up of a diverse set of technologists who love speaking about all things tech from open source ecosystems to VMware Tanzu specific projects. We are a tight knit group who support one another and love collaborating with each other and with other teams inside and outside the company. We are looking forward to finding the right person who will be a part of our fun, engaging, high impact team!
