Hydro-Klean is seeking a Safety Coordinator to be based in our Des Moines, IA office. Successful candidate will support Hydro-Klean in maintaining safety compliance to achieve an injury free work place and total compliance with local, state and federal regulatory agencies.

Essential Job Functions

Compliance:

  • Identify and control workplace hazards

  • Perform regular PQS (People, Quality, Safety) Observations of Hydro-Klean personnel

  • Provide compliance oversight of HK services performed at clients’ sites throughout service area

  • Coordinate client waste characterization, transportation and disposal projects

  • Prepare labels, shipping documents and waste manifests as needed

Recordkeeping: Document all training and incidents via web based KellerOnline® Interactive Safety Management Tool with a thorough understanding of recordkeeping regulations and criteria.

Training: Deliver required compliance training to Hydro-Klean personnel.

Equipment: Inspect applicable equipment on a regular basis, troubleshoot issues and make repairs as possible.

Inventory Management: Work closely with established vendors to maintain necessary inventory of consumables including containers, spill response supplies, personal protective equipment and associated safety equipment.

Facility: Conduct regular inspections of Hydro-Klean facilities to maintain regulatory compliance for safety concerns, waste management and environmental controls.

Other: All other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education: Minimum two (2) year college degree with emphasis in safety, environmental science or closely related field preferred. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Additional experience may substitute for education requirement.

Experience: Minimum one (1) year of experience within safety and/or environmental fields or applicable internship.

Regulatory Knowledge:

  • OSHA General Industry (confined space entry/technical rescue, emergency action planning, fall protection, fire prevention, hazard communication, HAZWOPER, energy isolation, etc.)

  • EPA Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA)

  • DOT General Driver Requirements and Hazardous Materials Transportation

Travel: Frequent travel and overnight stays required to project sites and HK branches.

Physical:

  • Requires working both indoors and outdoors, exposed to all weather conditions.

  • Periodically exposed to industrial environments involving equipment, elevated work areas, confined spaces, noise, dust, hazardous materials and odors.

  • Periodically required to traverse multiple flights of stairs carrying equipment, lift/move up to 50 pounds, perform tasks requiring climbing, crawling, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling, lifting, carrying and gripping.

Certifications:

Desired minimum certifications, or possess the ability to obtain:

  • OSHA Outreach Instructor (General Industry and/or Construction)

  • American Red Cross or American Heart Association First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor

  • Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST)

  • Certified Hazardous Materials Practioner/Manager (CHMP/CHMM)

Other:

  • Strong decision making, multi-tasking and communications skills, both written and verbal

  • Strong Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)

  • Clean driving record to maintain insurability with Hydro-Klean’s insurance carrier
