This full time position is located in Des Moines, IA; however please expect receiving calls from a 952 number in case you are considered. Relocation assistance is not provided.

Position Purpose:

The purpose of this position is to safely load and unload trucks and railcars in a fast-paced production atmosphere. This position is also responsible for the effective and efficient operation of the load-out and unload areas. Individuals will ensure that the equipment is fully operational and in good repair.

Principal Accountabilities:

The loadout technician is responsible for safely loading trucks and railcars that are shipped to customers of Cargill within legal weight limits. They will need to understand and adhere to product specifications and ensure proper additives and amounts thereof with Quality Assurance standards. The loadout technician will also unload trucks and railcars to maintain levels in onsite storage tanks. They will need to have a strong focus on personal safety along with food safety and customer requirements. The loadout technician will be responsible for housekeeping which includes a master sanitation program and keeping their area clean and free of oil spills. They will need to coordinate with the supply chain team and help manage tank inventories. There are many Good Hygiene Practices (GHP’s) that will need to be adhered to as well. The loadout technician will be expected to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot various pieces of equipment such as pumps, valves, piping, railcar moving equipment, etc. This would also include performing Lock-Out, Tag-Out (LOTO) on pieces of equipment and assisting with various permits.

Other Accountabilities:

  • Operates and maintains all equipment that is associated with loadout and unload. Ensures the equipment is fully operational and in good repair and troubleshooting minor problems, as necessary.

  • Gathers samples and conducts analytical testing of assigned process.

  • Timely and accurate documentation of operating logs into SAP system.

  • Loads and seals rail cars and trucks.

  • Other duties as assigned.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee is occasionally expected to sit or balance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

  • Cargill requires employees be a minimum of 18 years old to work in a production facility.

  • Must be able to perform physical job duties including bending/stooping, climbing ladders, open/close valves, shoveling, pounding with hammer and work in confined spaces.

  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.

  • Must be able to work under special work conditions, such as extreme heat or cold.

  • Ability to work in elevated areas.

  • Must be able to operate machinery.

  • Must be able to read/write English.

  • High School diploma or Equivalent.

  • Basic computer skills.

  • Ability to work overtime.

  • Ability to work holidays, nights, weekends or different shifts.


  • Prior experience in production related work.

  • Able to operate heavy equipment.

  • Forklift certified.
