Job Description

Only applicants who meet the Minimum Qualification Requirements and meet all selective requirements will be placed on the eligible list.

The Iowa Public Employees' Retirement System (IPERS) is seeking a professional to fill the position of Information Technology Specialist 2 (ITS2) in the Information Management Division. This position will provide technology support for IPERS Pension Administration system, related technology devices and associated business processes.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Provide timely response and effective resolution to IPERS end user inquires and request for assistance.

  • Perform effective problem solving techniques.

  • Determine appropriate escalation path for inquires that require senior technology resources.

  • Document problems, inquires and requests for assistance.

  • Provide timely response and resolution to IPERS member inquiries regarding Member Self Service Portal.

  • Coordinate notification of service interruptions and restorations to IPERS end users and members.

  • Conduct training for IPERS end users covering technology and security related skills.

  • Assist with managing the moves/adds/changes of inventory for all workstations and related peripheral equipment.

  • Track inventory for all hardware devices.

  • Obtain price quotes from vendors for budget projections and technology purchases.

  • Organize the technical resource storage area.

6 months' experience, 12 semester hours, or a combination of both in the installation, repairing, and overseeing of computer hardware/software/or peripheral equipment. This also involves answering user inquiries on computer hardware and software operation.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Experience equal to two years of full-time work: operating a multi-job computer; installing, operating and coordinating computer based networks; installing/maintaining database management systems; developing business application processes; developing/operating system programs; installing/maintaining personal computers, Local Area Networks and/or servers; managing operating systems; developing/ delivering information management training; providing Information Technology (IT) customer service; or designing/administering Internet sites;

OR

completion of an approved curriculum/specialized training program developed and implemented by or in cooperation with state government;

OR

twelve semester hours of accredited post high school education in one of the specialty areas listed in the first clause above;

OR

certification by an authorized educational institution/major computer or software producer in an area directly related to one of the specialty areas listed in the first clause above may be substituted for one year of the required experience;

OR

an equivalent combination of education and experience substituting thirty semester hours of education for six months of experience;

OR

employees withcurrentcontinuous experience in the state executive branch that includes experience equal to six months of full-time work as an Information Technology Specialist 1.
