UnityPoint Health HRIS Analyst II in Des Moines, Iowa

Ideally looking for candidates within Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin where UnityPoint Health has teams located. Incumbent may work mostly remotely.

Areas of focus vary between leading new HR system or module implementations to supporting, maintaining and optimizing existing components of various HR systems supported by the HRIS team. This individual develops partnerships with HR and IT teams to analyze and improve upon existing work practices through technology. Areas of ownership also include researching and resolving complex issues, developing and executing testing and implementation plans, and utilizing reporting and dashboard tools to provide data outputs. This role may also support upgrades, as well as integrations of new healthcare systems into the UPH organization.

  • Recommends process/customer service improvements and innovative solutions in meeting the business objectives prior to their approval for implementation. Serves as a key liaison with third parties and other stakeholders (e.g. payroll).

  • Use project management skills in managing projects. May provide overall project management for a given HR initiative.

  • Responsible for system design, build, testing, process documentation and go-live support for all projects assigned. Analysts in this role will serve as a consultant both to functional teams in implementing and leveraging the tools, as well as to others on the HRIS team post implementation, providing insight into project decisions and new functionality to ensure a smooth transition to ongoing support.

  • Collaborates with the internal Growth team to navigate the scope, risks and business needs of the new affiliating staff and manage the creation, validation and execution of the data files to ensure full incorporation of the new staff and foundational structural system build needed to support them.

  • Writes, maintains and support a variety of reports, dashboards or queries utilizing appropriate reporting tools. Assists in development of standard reports for ongoing customer needs.

  • Develops user procedures, guidelines and documentation to train employees on new processes/functionality and provide support during system change events.

  • Provide support for HRMS including, but not limited to, researching and resolving tier 2 HRMS problems, unexpected results or process flaws; perform scheduled activities; recommend solutions or alternate methods to meet requirements.

  • Assist in the review, testing and implementation of HRMS system upgrades or patches. Collaborate with functional and technical staff to coordinate application of upgrade or fix. Maintain HRMS system tables. Document process and results.

  • Serves as a back-up to other HRIS Analysts to ensure redundancy across the team in particular areas of the system.

  • Maintain regular and consistent attendance at work.

  • Adhere to all UnityPoint Health Personnel policies and procedures and Safety guidelines.

  • Behave in a manner consistent with all Corporate Compliance policies and procedures.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Three to five years of HRIS or HR generalist or specialist experience.

  • Systems implementation experience preferred.

  • Strong understanding of HR processes and data, across all HR functional areas.Strong understanding of HRMS database design, structure, functions and processes, and experience with databases tools.

  • Thorough knowledge of MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint. Experience with an HRMS such as PeopleSoft, Lawson or ADP EV2.

  • Effective organizational and interpersonal skills including written and verbal communication skills.

  • Previous exposure to project-related activities through active participation in system-related projects.

  • Requires knowledge of federal healthcare laws and regulations.

  • Requires highly developed communication skills to effectively work with all levels of management throughout the UnityPoint Health, its subsidiaries and affiliates.

  • Excellent academic credentials with a track record of professional accomplishments, which demonstrate superior performance, leadership and vision.

  • Possesses excellent written and verbal communications.

  • Ability to work as a team member, creating and maintaining effective working relationships.

  • Ability to understand and apply guidelines, policies and procedures.


  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field or equivalent work experience.
