Distinguishing Features of the Class
Under general supervision assists in the performance of a variety of semi- skilled and skilled tasks assigned in the maintenance and repair of project buildings, facilities, grounds and equipment of the housing development to which assigned.
Acceptable Experience and Training
High school graduate with two or more years experience in building maintenance and operation of necessary and varied equipment and tools or, an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Special Qualifications
Requires satisfactory criminal, sex offender and driving record background checks. Passing a pre-employment physical and drug screen is required prior to employment.

Examples of Essential Work (Illustrative Only)
Under direction of the working Maintenance Mechanic A or Maintenance Supervisor and using a variety of craft hand tools; assists in performing tasks in several of the recognized crafts; performs or assists in the necessary repair tasks of both a routine or an emergency nature; under supervision follows an established schedule in the performance of a preventative maintenance program designed to ensure the continued operation or use of buildings and facilities including the continued plumbing, electrical and installed appliances; assists in the performance or performs work required in repairing or replacing plumbing fixtures, electrical sockets, wall plates, outlets, switches, replaces damaged or worn out floor tile, remove and repair or replace door locks and sophisticated machinery in common areas and apartments; assists in estimating costs and type of materials required for necessary maintenance; assists in instructing residents in maintenance of units; prepares vacated units for re-occupancy, uses and services various lawn and grounds care machines; maintains small inventory; performs other duties as assigned.
