Drake University's Office of Facilities Planning & Management performs a variety of custodial tasks and activities designed to maintain the campus in an orderly, sanitary, safe and attractive condition. The Facility Maintainer III (FMIII) works under general supervision, with daily periods of self-direct interruptioted activity to complete work activities that are scheduled, unscheduled, and are subject to frequent interruptions. Under supervision, but with regular daily periods of self directed activity, performs a variety of tasks and activities designed to maintain the University in an orderly sanitary, safe and attractive condition. Work activities are scheduled and unscheduled in nature and are subject to frequent interruptions.

Work schedule is mornings, Saturday and Sunday 5am to 1:30pm and 3 weekday's from 4:30am to 1:00pm. Position requires a pre-employment background check, drug screen, and a valid driver's license and a driving record that meets the insurability requirements to drive on behalf of the University.


Vacuums, dust mops, damp and wet mop stairwells, restrooms, hallways, classrooms and offices.

Clean and disinfect area by washing furnishings, tile, fixtures and equipment with germicidal cleaning solutions, polish sinks, drinking fountains, toilets, mirrors and similar apparatus; spot wash walls, light switches and telephones; wash or clean windows and door glass; keep all debris in area pick up.

Frequently exercise judgment with regard to appropriate chemical supplies and equipment to use completing daily tasks. Collect and remove waste inside and outside of University Buildings as directed. Use dust mops and damp cloths, ladders and vacuum cleaner to clean window sills, air vents, moldings, furniture and so forth.

Replenish University building areas with supplies of soap, paper towels, toilet tissue, etc. Must work in a team performing specialized task to accomplish daily routine cleaning


High School graduate or equivalent Ability to read and communicate in writing using the English language Housekeeping experience preferred Ability to satisfactorily complete department training program Ability to follow instructions Ability to consistently meet the department work schedule as designated Ability to work with chemical fluids used for cleaning, waxing and/or disinfecting Valid Iowa Driver's License, good driving record and insurable by Drake University
