Citizens Bank Cryptographic Cloud Security Principal Architect (Remote) in Des Moines, Iowa


The Citizens Corporate Security and Resilience (CS&R) Security Engineering and Architecture (SEA) team is looking for a Principal Cryptographic Cloud Security Architect, with a strong background in information security, cryptographic, data protection technologies, and cloud security.

This position will assist in designing, developing, integrating and evaluating enterprise cryptographic strategy, technologies and automation. This includes, providing subject matter expertise around modern cryptographic protocols/constructs, key management, API Security, Cloud Security, Secrets Management blockchain and distributed ledger.

This exciting position is both strategic and tactical in nature and requires a candidate, with a strong technical background, and the ability to build relationships, mentor and consult at many levels.

Location is not a barrier for this role and while our preference would be to have a chosen candidate with onsite capabilities in one of our corporate headquarters – we are open to remote employment within the United States for an experienced candidate.

Responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to:

  • Architecture and development of integration level abstractions

  • Architecture and development of automation and orchestration across cryptographic frameworks

  • Evaluating cryptographic tools, products and frameworks

  • Troubleshooting cryptographic anomalies and issues across the enterprise.

  • Collaborating with business and IT stakeholders to secure strong engagement for the solution and ensuring that the delivery of the Platform aligns to longer-term strategic roadmap

  • Participating as a technology lead to collaborate with Agile squads to deliver business benefits with effective and efficient use of cryptographic platforms

  • Defining and communicating the technology direction by collaborating with IT and business stakeholders to establish and maintain Architecture Blueprints. These define the target architecture direction and high-level roadmap for cryptographic platforms that will benefit multiple business divisions and organizations

  • Leading efforts to prioritize, establish and maintain cryptographic principles and design patterns to promote reuse, improve stability and improve security

  • Improving stability of platforms by assisting with complex problem resolution efforts to determine root cause and fixes related to Production Incidents

  • Continuously learning new technologies and capabilities

  • Introducing new technologies in initiatives and coaching teams on using and implementing new technologies


Experience and Skills:

  • 8 - 10 years of relevant experience in support, development, design and implementation of technology solutions on large initiatives

  • Solid understanding of PKI/PKCS and cryptographic tools and techniques including:

  • Underlying infrastructure, standards and key management

  • Certificates and Certificate Authorities

  • Public/Private key encryption and digital signature

  • Cryptographic Protocols and Ciphers

  • HTTPS and Mutual Authentication

  • Blockchain and Distributed Ledge

  • Solid development/scripting, and/or architectural proficiencies in the following:

  • Java , JavaScript, Ansible, Node.js

  • Hashicorp Terraform

  • WS Security Framework

  • Restful Services, API JSON/JWT

  • Linux/BASH

  • Jenkins

  • Solid understanding and practical experience in Hashicorp Vault, AWS and Microservices

  • Proven ability to independently identify and resolve critical and complex issues through effective problem-solving skills

  • Superb communication skills (written and verbal) with ability to communicate with both technical and non-technical audiences

    Education and Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • CISSP or CISM preferred.

    Hours per Week: 40

    Work Schedule: Monday through Friday

    This position is not available in Colorado.
