MidAmerican Energy Company Contract Administrator in Des Moines, Iowa
*Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Job Function)
The contract administrator forecasts, schedules and supervises contractor crew activities related to gas and electric customer service, operations and maintenance and construction. The contract administrator administers the contract agreements, assures compliance with company policies and local, state and federal regulations, handles customer questions and complaints and enforces safety rules and practices. The contract administrator exercises direct supervision of up to 100 contract personnel. This position has an additional responsibility which includes providing technical expertise, support, operational training and oversight functions of contractor workforce. This position also provides active leadership and technical support to fulfill the objectives and goals of MidAmerican Energy Company distribution operations.
Provides oversight and direction of contractors when coordinating project activities associated with the electric and gas systems. (60%)
Anticipates needs, forecasts, schedules, coordinates and oversees contractor and manpower personnel. (15%)
Processing and payment of contractor invoicing. (10%)
Administers and assists in the development of contract agreements. (5%)
Assists in the development of project plans, provide direction and coordinate project activities associated with contractors, field services and operations. (5%)
Handles unusual or difficult inquiries/situations through direct personal action or refers to the appropriate individual. (5%)
Assures compliance with all local, state and federal regulations and company policies.
Responsible for on-call duty rotation in their area.
Perform additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.
Demonstration of knowledge and understanding of human performance improvement techniques.
Evaluate present practices and implement processes, concepts, training and tools to prevent, detect and correct human errors that may adversely impact the safe, reliable operation of the electric transmission and distribution system.

Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, or related field; or equivalent work experience. (Typically six years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess bachelor's degree.)
Four years of related experience, including one year in a senior technical/leadership role.
Computer proficiency; experience with CSS, WMS, RM/MDT and Fieldview systems preferred.
Effective written and verbal communication skills. Needs to have demonstrated success in clearly articulating information and issues to audiences of varied perspectives and backgrounds.
Effective level of interpersonal and leadership abilities. Requires the skill and expertise to effectively lead a variety of employee positions.
Effective analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
Negotiation skills in order to influence, persuade, sell and lead opinion.
Technical expertise related to the operation of gas and electric utility systems and expertise related to the use and maintenance of equipment and tools.
Project management skills; ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
