Position Overview

Kemin is seeking an Associate Scientist for management of all fermentation-related projects, team staff, and responsibility for successful project execution, product development and launch.

This full-time Associate Scientist is responsible for the all the fermentation research in new product development and continuous improvement of existing products.

Job responsibilities:

  • Plan, execute and document all research experiments involving fermentation, downstream processing and final product formulation

  • Lead the fermentation research team of 2-3 research associates

  • Develop documents in compliance with the Product Innovation Process

  • Actively participate in identifying research areas that could lead to the development of new products or continuous improvement of existing products

  • Write various professional documents, for both internal and external use

  • Adhere to laboratory standard operating procedures, documentation and GMP guidelines

  • Understanding of Intellectual Property, protecting IP, and freedom to operate issues is desired

Skills Required:

  • Excellent experimental design, results interpretation and problem solving skills

  • Detail oriented, highly organized, and motivated by accomplishment

  • Capability to independently carry out fermentation research, and expertise running, maintaining and trouble-shooting fermentation and down-stream processing equipment

  • Effective time management

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Experience in people training and management experience is desired

  • Ability to simultaneously manage several projects

  • Ability to present ideas effectively and communicate well with all levels of management within a team environment on a variety of programs and projects

  • Advanced computer knowledge (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, etc.) and statistical analysis (SAS or comparable program)

  • Ability to work in a continually changing environment

  • Proficiency in Mandarin language is desired

Qualifications:

  • Master with minimum of 3 years of working experience or PhD in bioengineering, microbiology, fermentation technology, food science, or related background.

  • 3 years of hands-on fermentation research required, industry fermentation experience desired
