Job Title: Technician II (Equipment Service)

Location: Coralville, IA

Shift: Early Day ( Monday - Thursday 6:00am - 5:00pm)

Purpose statement:

The Technician II performs maintenance services on IDT’s laboratory equipment including preventative maintenance, reconditioning of IDT’s laboratory equipment, as well as addressing immediate operational maintenance and/or safety concerns. This position also ensures that equipment, tools, and materials are maintained.

Essential Functions:

  • Ensures operation of laboratory equipment by completing preventive maintenance and troubleshooting equipment malfunctions.

  • Follows Standard Operating Procedure and Work Instruction documents while performing maintenance and assembly procedures.

  • Fills out logs, reports and forms as required to document service procedures and calibration data.

  • Provides input to design staff regarding new equipment, and constructive feedback regarding existing equipment, to streamline troubleshooting and service requirements and to increase product quality.

  • Practices safe working habits, follows all IDT safety policies, performs safety checks on equipment and systems. Identifies, corrects and reports potential safety hazards.

  • Reports issues to management.

  • Removes defective parts by dismantling devices.

  • Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments.

  • Detects source of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation.

  • Manages equipment downtime by informing production workers of routine preventive maintenance.

  • Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.

  • Attends monthly department meetings.

  • Demonstrates behavior consistent with the Integrated DNA Technologies Core Values.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required

  • Associate’s degree in Engineering or Maintenance related program preferred.

Professional Experience:

  • Previous experience in a mechanically related field required.

  • Ability to use hand and power tools.

  • Skill to using a soldering iron.

  • Ability to follow diagrams, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications.

  • Ability to interact in a professional manner with customers, employees, and all levels of management.

  • Standing: maintaining an upright position.

  • Talking: expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken work- those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.

  • Hearing: perceiving the nature of sounds at normal range; ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make fine discriminations in sound, such as when auscultating and percussing.

Frequent (34-66% of work day)

  • Reaching: extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.

  • Lifting: raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to position.

  • Using Fingers/Grasping/Feeling: writing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand or arm as in handling. Applying pressure to an object with the fingers or palm and perceiving attributes of objects such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touch.

  • Repetitive Motion: substantial movements (motion) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.

  • Bending: bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist and/or bending leg; bending legs at knee to come to rest or kneel.

Occasional (33% or less of work day)

  • Sitting: to assume a position in which the weight is largely supported by the buttocks, usually with the body vertical and the thighs horizontal.

  • Pushing/Pulling: using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward/using upper extremities to exert force in order to drag, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.

  • Climbing: stairs, stools, ramps, ladders.

Visual Acuity:

  • Work requires close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

  • Ability to read pertinent printed material and distinguish colors.

  • Ability to accurately read measurements on equipment.

  • Ability to prepare and read written documentation; use of computer.
