General Dynamics Information Technology Software Developer in Coralville, Iowa

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct analysis and design of VA VistA data interfaces

  • Maintain and improve the performance of existing software

  • Recommend improvements to existing software programs as necessary

  • Participate in creating software development plans and strategies.

  • Devise solutions to predicted problems, evaluating other options as needed

  • Identify weaknesses or risks and make recommendations to mitigate

  • Analyze problems and determine appropriate course correction measures as necessary

Required Qualifications/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering management or other engineering or technical discipline is required with 5 years of relevant experience. 8 years of additional relevant experience may be substituted for education

  • Front end design and development experience - HTML, Javascript, Angular.

  • Very strong Java EE skills including experience with hosting containers such as JBoss.

  • Experience with MongoDB and Elastic credentials

  • Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes

  • Experience working in an agile environment

  • Experience in analyzing customer needs and developing overall concept and design objectives

  • Experience creating software in a variety of programming languages and for a variety of software applications

  • Experience in developing and implementing algorithms

  • Must be able to obtain a Position of Trust and successfully pass a thorough Government background screening process requiring the completion of detailed forms and fingerprinting, and;

  • US Citizenship or Green card holder

Preferred Skills

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are preferred

  • Experience with enterprise level application development.

  • Experience in debugging and correcting errors in computer programs

  • Attention to detail and strong excellent customer service skills are preferred

  • Experience developing within the Massachusetts General Hospital Utility Multi-Programming System (MUMPS)

  • Experience architecting Department of Veterans Affairs systems such as Veterans Health Information Systems and Technology Architecture (VistA)

  • Experience using HealthShare Health Connect

  • Strong architectural design skills

  • Experience with relational databases including document management

  • Working in a lean agile software development environment, using DevSecOps tools and practices

  • Use of databases including document based and relational systems.
