T. Marzetti Company Production Technician 2nd Shift in Clive, Iowa
CAREFULLY AND ACCURATELY PACKAGES COMPLETED PRODUCT: Follows detailed instructions on spec sheets, production tracking sheets, training materials, equipment operating instructions and other materials to package finished products and track inventory to company and customer specification.
- OPERATES POWER EQUIPMENT: Operates powered mechanical packaging machines, box makers, conveyors and other power equipment during the packaging of completed product. Transports finished product in and out of production, warehouse, coolers and freezers. Uses and transports hand and/or power trucks, carts, conveyors, and hoists to handle and transport products and materials
MOVES PACKAGING MATERIALS, PRODUCTS AND WASTE MANUALLY: Climbs stairs, up to 12 times an hour in 8 hr, to access hopper when filling it. Transfers bagged pasta product from packing table and loads into cartons. Hand stacks boxed product on pallet. Transports waste products in excess of 100 lbs. (must use self-ergonomics, mechanical means and teamwork).
MAINTAINS ACCURATE RECORDS: Stamps, codes, labels, records weights and measures or otherwise marks identity on raw and finished products.
REMOVES FROZEN PRODUCT FROM PRODUCTION FREEZER TUNNEL FOR PACKAGING: Requires stacking of pasta sheets and strips or rolled cheese-filled products, sandwiches and other pasta product weighing 1 to 3 pounds. up to 500 times an hour while placing in boxes or other containers for storage and shipment. Requires vertically transferring same weighing 15 lbs., 100 times an hour. .
MOVES COMPLETED BOXED PRODUCT: Transfers boxed product from conveyor to pallet. Requires horizontally transferring it weighing 15-30lbs 100/hr a distance of five feet without mechanical assistance. Hand stacks cartons of product (frozen pasta) on pallet. Requires vertically transferring it weighing 30 lbs., up to 70 times an hour. Also horizontally transferring it a distance of 3 ft without mechanical assistance. Feeds loaded carton of product onto tape machine. Requires use of upper body forces of 15 lbs. to horizontally transfer it up to 100/hr. Transports waste product in excess of 100 lbs. (must use self-ergonomics, mechanical means and teamwork).
CLEANS AND MAINTAINS OWN WORK AREA AND OTHER AREAS IN PLANT: Operates pressure washer with 3000-5000 PSI or more of force and/or hose with sprayer nozzle to clean/sanitize equipment. Uses brushes, cleaning cloths and other cleaning tools to manually clean work area, machines, tools, and equipment. Performs other routine cleaning duties as assigned.
FOOD SAFETY AND QUALITY RESPONSIBILITIES: Applies the food safety and quality principles as described in the Marzetti Corporate Food Safety and Quality Manual and internal Marzetti Frozen Pasta policies, training and procedures in all applicable aspects of departmental and job functions.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred or demonstrated successful experience in a production environment and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, comprehend and follow detailed instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write correspondence with minimum of high school accuracy and comprehension. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
COMPUTER SKILLS: Must be willing and able to learn skills necessary to accurately input data into computer payroll, attendance, manufacturing and inventory tracking systems.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to extreme cold and occasionally exposed to extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
WORK HOURS: The work hours of this position require flexibility in order to meet production requirements. Some mandatory overtime may be required and voluntary overtime may be available. Shift hours: A shift 11:00 PM – 7:30 AM Sunday through Thursday, B shift 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM Monday through Friday, C shift 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM Monday through Friday.
