We are seeking a Utility Mechanic to work in our Charles City, IA location who shares the values and principles that characterize who we are and how we work. It's time to join our world-class team, if the following attributes reflect your desire to contribute:

Job Description

With minimal supervision from the Maintenance Supervisor, the Utility Mechanic completes repairs and performs preventative maintenance on rotating equipment, piping, and minor electrical equipment along with other tasks as needed to ensure the continued operation of all company facilities.

Job Responsibilities

The Utility Mechanic duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Troubleshoot and repair equipment failure

  • Diagnoses problems and repairs malfunctioning rotating equipment

  • Measure, cut, fit and assemble threaded, welded and glued joint pipe.

  • Replace appropriate pump and agitator seals

  • Unload bulk liquids from tank trucks into storage tanks.

  • Take readings, test steam chemicals, operate and maintain boilers in steam plant.

  • Oversee maintenance and operation of cooling towers, fire protection, compressed air, WFI and other utility operating systems.

  • Assist with product setups.

  • Complete line entry, hot work and confined space permits prior to beginning work.

  • Follow procedures for implementation of Lockout/Tagout prior to performing work.

  • Execute lubrication and preventative maintenance programs.

  • Welding repair and fabrication work as needed.

  • Minor piping insulation work as needed.

  • Assist with installation, removal, and relocation of heavy equipment and tanks.

  • Perform repairs to glass-lined and rubber-lined equipment

  • Perform minor instrument calibrations as needed.

  • Responsible for minor repair work on fork trucks and motorized carts

  • Responsible for monitoring operational status of emergency generator

  • Utilization of the CMMS to locate spare parts in Maintenances Stores area.

  • Perform a variety of general maintenance activities as assigned.

Job Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent

  • General maintenance experience in welding, electrical, plumbing, mechanical and boiler operation.

  • Ability to make accurate decisions in absence of on site supervision.

  • DEA background check required.

  • Repirator use required.

  • Basic computer operation experience (i.e. Microsoft Word, email, etc.)
