Job Summary

The intention of the Project Engineer role within the Rockwell Collins Linux team is to structure, report and keep development activities on track. The Project Engineer will be product organization and team facing. The Project Engineer will maintain the financial and schedule relationship with the project. This includes the day to day CAM activities and owning the transition of a project from EER to staffed and executing. The Project Engineer will work with the team’s architects and individual project leads. The Project Engineer will coordinate staffing needs with the L5 manager.

Job Responsibilities


  • Quarterly health reporting of projects and pursuits within the RC Linux team to L3/4/5

  • Present similar brief overview at PI events

  • Bi-annually reporting of projects and pursuits to L4 organizations we have pursued or have products we support (Grow our Agile Value Stream)

  • Monthly staff tie-offs with L5 and team architects

  • As needed Project Engineer <-> Project lead dialog


  • Work with project leads on schedule and financial impacts to their projects. The project lead is still expected to manage their R/O but the Project Engineer may need to be present at times to capture the change in plan.

  • Work with our architects on aligning staffing to accommodate innovation and research growth.

  • Provide bid/pursuit consultation support so that we have a standard approach to all new work coming into the team.

  • Before each Agile PI, project leads and Project Engineer will validate any updates to our plan.

  • If the project does not have a PI event, the Project Engineer schedules time to do a similar activity (on the dept’s PI schedule) with that project so task priority/staffing can be taken into account.

  • Participates in the review of the project’s work-in-progress at stand-ups. Takes action as needed to assist in removing the roadblocks.

  • Supports effort to manage contract labor contracts used for staff augmentation.

  • Management of expectations at a project level and feedback to the project lead and/or architect when more resources/pull may be required to manage a situation.

  • When new scope is identified, they force the necessary project discussion.

  • Actively helps to lower the bus factor through cross training.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) discipline.

  • Must have the ability to handle multiple projects at once.

  • Familiarity with the software development life cycle (SDLC).

  • Must have project engineering experience.

  • Experience with development methodologies such as Agile & Waterfall.

  • Bid & pursuit experience.

  • Excellent presentation skills.
