PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assume coordination responsibility for all department tasks and general production flow, including operational responsibility for department in absence of Manager and Operations Representative.

  • Monitor and prioritize production flow to ensure contractual turnaround time requirements are met.

  • Document, report and resolve problems encountered. Contact appropriate individuals to resolve problems as necessary.

  • Identify and recommend areas for improvement, including recommendations for equipment needs.

  • Respond to questions and requests from other department staff.

  • Instruct and assist other employees with interpreting specifications on assigned projects.

  • Responsible for operational department training. Develop training modules for departmental tasks and for specific processing. Write and update training materials for all projects as required.

  • Assist in maintaining schedules by reporting progress on assigned tasks.

  • Assist manager in obtaining labor resources needed to complete a project.

  • Assist manager in coordinating multiple shifts and directly supervise as many as 100 regular and temporary employees, including monitoring attendance and assigning tasks.

  • Review project specifications and working with product line personnel, provide guidance in assuring accurate, complete and current specifications.

  • Perform all duties of lower classified personnel within the department.

  • Assist in the development and implementation of new procedures within functional area of department.

  • Assist product line and development personnel in developing new procedures.

  • Assist manager in meeting with vendors to evaluate new technology and equipment.

  • Provide leadership, direction and training for assigned functions.

  • Serve as primary contact for internal customers for information requests and problem solving.

  • May perform work of higher classified positions for purpose of training and further development.

  • The ability and commitment to meet Department overtime requirements to meet customer demands.

  • Observe all safety and hygiene requirements as specified and in daily departmental stretching program.

  • Apply concepts of continuous improvement and demonstrate core values and leadership principles.

  • The ability and commitment to work staggered or off-shifts during peak seasons.

  • May be required to work in other departments in Cedar Rapids for either brief or extended periods of time.

  • Will be working second shift during peak season (possibly February through August).

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or the equivalent is preferred.

  • Three (3) years of processing/production experience or the equivalent preferred.

  • Supervisory experience or experience training employees is required.

  • Demonstrated leadership, supervisory, communication, organizational, teamwork and customer service skills required.

  • Demonstrated ability to direct, train and schedule work for multiple teams of employees.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively under tight deadlines required.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of PCs required, primarily MS Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook and Gmail.

  • Must be able to meet and maintain high quality standards.

  • Must possess demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Post secondary education or vocational/technical training is desirable.

  • Experience using TSO, CICS, and other mainframe applications, along with Oracle, are preferred.

  • Knowledge of processing procedures and flow is preferred.

  • Creative problem-solving abilities and mechanical aptitude desired.

  • Familiarity with processing operations similar to those at Pearson is strongly desired

  • Team player with initiative, able to work independently.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to routinely lift up to 65 pound boxes and move pallets weighing approximately 2000 pounds with a pallet jack.

  • Ability to stand and/or sit for long periods of time, as required.

  • Position requires frequent bending and twisting.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

  • Reports to : Manager Production Operation

  • Direction received from : Manager Production Operation and Operation Representative

  • Direction of others : Provide leadership, training and guidance to lower level personnel in assigned department.

Must be willing to work 2nd shift (3:00 PM - 11:30 PM) during peak season.
