WABTEC Principal Software Engineer in Cedar Rapids, Iowa

Overview

Lead a team of software engineers in designing, developing and supporting real time embedded software applications for Positive Train Control products at Wabtec Railway Electronics (WRE) a leading supplier of technology-based products and services for the rail and transit industries. Â Job entails leading both technical project and managerial aspects.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of 5 software engineers including prioritization of tasks, career development and performance reviews.

  • Analysis, design and development of software for real-time applications on a Linux-like platform using C and/or C++.

  • Lead designing, coding, testing, debugging, configuring, and documenting software as per the company’s policies and procedures

  • Lead a team to develop solutions that meet project requirements within the program schedule and budget constraints.

  • Take a leadership role in systems analysis and design of real time applications, defining interfaces between system segments and software architecture and design.

  • Facilitate fault isolation, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis activities during system integration and validation testing.

  • Make independent technical contributions in support of program objectives, as well as interacting with other Wabtec or contract software and systems engineers and customers.

  • Coordinate activities like requirements, design and code reviews per the defined development process

  • Some travel requirements to interface with customers and/or support field test.

Qualifications

  • BS in Software Engineering/Computer Science/Electrical/Electronics Engineering is required and MS in a similar discipline is a plus with 10+ years of work experience

  • Technical Leadership experience in managing schedules and resource loading, resolving technical challenges and driving projects to completion.

  • Solid work experience with SCM, change management, defect tracking, software build and release processes.

  • Experience in implementing a good development process including requirements tracing with tools like ReqPro, DOORS.

  • Experience in managing software engineers including administering performance reviews

  • Effective oral and written communication skills, ability to articulate clearly and concisely.

  • A team player who can enable a cohesive, motivated development team

  • High degree of attention to detail.
