The R egional (Dry) Packaging Manufacturing Technology Leader utilizes their deep subject matter expertise and experience in packaging systems to provide standardized technical & operational performance leadership for the CSST regional Packaging and Warehousing operations. The position’s focus areas include direct technical responsibility for Packaging efficiencies and key performance indicators and metrics, applicable process safety and food safety standards and best practices within all packaging technologies, and value capture through implementation of HPI and incremental improvement initiatives.
This role will work across functions including, but not limited to: Strategic Sourcing and Procurement, Finance, Operations, Maintenance and Reliability, Supply chain, Commercial, Global Packaging Manufacturing Technology organization, Continuous improvement, Engineering and Capital projects to ensure aligned standards, processes and best practices are deployed regionally. This person in this role will develop and be accountable for Packaging Talent management strategy and tactics within the region including identifying other operational talent in the location packaging departments , training and development of packaging expertise and talent pipeline across the region . This role is a key link between the Packaging COE and deployment of standards, best practices and continuous improvement opportunities to create value within the region.
This position will have accountability and ownership of the following:
Leadership of value creation in the Packaging, Warehousing and Material handling areas including leadership, development and management of the regional portfolio for both capital and non-capital initiatives and activities across the region as well as providing technical input expertise for project development.
Lead the deployment of manufacturing technology processes to sustain value and enable growth and continuous improvement
Provide technical support for strategic activities, including but not limited to analysis of opportunities with complex business cases and providing technology transfer between world class packaging suppliers and Cargill Packaging operations;
Oversee technology performance, utilizing metrics and KPI’s to ensure sustainment of value and identification of opportunities ensure digitalization of metrics, KPIs and measures for visibility at all levels of the organization.
Complete regional gap assessment against corporate and best in class packaging standards and operations. Develop short and long-term roadmap to close these gaps at each facility including prioritization across the region.
Support locations through implementation of standardization of processes, validation of compliance to standards and technical development of their people;
Provide technology leadership for Inherently Safer Design, Process Safety and Food Safety standards for packaging areas and products as suitable to the products .
In partnership with Corporate packaging COE develop and deploy best practices and standards for installation and maintenance of existing and new packaging equipment.
40% Value creation:
Lead short, mid, long term value creation through identification and prioritization of opportunities and applying operational excellence practices and priniciples .
Support the global Packaging COE in providing technical support for growth opportunities within the region.
Develop and manage the regional packaging portfolio in alignment with Product line, Business, Regional and Global strategy
Drive additional value by overseeing Packaging and Warehousing Systems and Cost Savings initiatives across the region.
20% Sustain the base:
Identify, share and institutionalize best practices by understanding, documenting and deploying them across the enterprise.
Partner globally to audit performance to these standards.
Create and utilize processes and metrics to sustain the value created and identify opportunities.
Develop/optimize Packaging processes.
40% Develop, coach, lead others:
Ensure standard employee training and development relating to Packaging within the region.
Share vision, direction, value opportunities and empower/enable others to achieve it.
Provide coaching, development, and performance management to direct and indirect reports.
Any other duties as assigned
For this function expected travel to be 50%
Minimum Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or science.
10 years industrial operations experience
5 years direct packaging experience for solids, powders and other dry product handling.
Demonstrated ability to lead in complex and ambiguous technical, operational, engineering, and business environments and lead those concepts across broad geographies.
Demonstrated ability to direct and lead people, with diverse backgrounds, to accomplish business objectives, through influence as well as through reporting lines.
Ability to adapt and learn in a changing work environment.
Strong attention to detail.
Demonstrated strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
Ability to recognize when the utilization of six-sigma tools and methodologies will add business value.
Ability to partner with product line management and external suppliers on process improvements, filling technology lead roles for new packaging projects.
Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate through written, verbal and presentation skills with multiple levels of Cargill and customer organizations.

Knowledge of Food Safety best practices as it applies to packaging food products

Basic knowledge of Process Safety and inherently safer design for packaging equipment.
Ability to travel 30-50% of the time.
Demonstrated competency and utilization of Statistical tools such as Minitab, JMP, Umetrics and/or other statistical or multivariate analysis tools.
Six Sigma Black Belt
Demonstrated project management skills.
Experience in supplier negotiations
Experience with Ready to Eat food ingredient packaging
