Role Overview

We are currently searching for a Staff Software Engineer to join the Model Based Systems Engineering team in Cedar Rapids, IA. A comprehensive relocation package is available for qualified candidates.

Job Summary

This position is for a Staff Software Engineer on the Model Based Systems Engineering team in the Rotary Wing Platform Systems organization. The MBSE team is a research and development group responsible for supporting the maturation of key emerging methods and differentiators required to position Collins Aerospace for both current and future growth opportunities; supporting our military and their partners. This includes, but is not limited to, model-based engineering processes, tools, techniques, formal methods analysis, cyber security and Open Systems development.

The MBSE development team has a need for a strong domain software lead. As the team defines the roadmap and matures our MBSE process, the software lead will “gate” check the process to ensure that domain software development practices are accounted for within the process. Additionally, the programs exercising MBSE require integration of 1st and 3rd party software components as well as robust simulation environments comprised of multiple components from internal and external vendors. The software lead will be responsible for coordinating and developing the integration of these components.

Responsibilities

MBSE

Learn the MBSE process as it is defined today through execution of SCRUM tasks with the team. Once onboarded to the MBSE process, stay knowledgeable of the MBSE process and provide review/guidance to the architects responsible for MBSE roadmaps/process definition.

System Design Software Lead

Lead the design and oversee the implementation (technical and budget) of the mission systems developed using MBSE. Ensure that the system definition as developed by the team can be achieved through planned component development and integration .

Examples of mission system component integration:

  • 3rd party component integration using FACE transport layers

  • Rehosting first party applications in new computing environments

  • Cyber security guard implementation/integration

  • Android application development and integration

  • F35 helmet mounted display integration

Demonstration Environment Software Lead

Lead the design and oversee the implementation (technical and budget) of the MBSE demonstration environments.

Capstone demonstration environment SW work:

  • CORESIM/rig integration

  • CORESIM UAV and AC entity simulations

  • SAFe integration such as MAK VR Forces

  • Scenario manager development and integration

  • CORESIM/CSE integration

Software Implementation

Implement the demo and mission system components as necessary, however focus should be on coaching/guiding junior engineers and external teams on implementation of desired features.

Skills that we are seeking:

  • Demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment, excellent interpersonal skills and proactive problem-solving abilities.

  • Creativity and alternative thinking to develop new or novel ideas to solve problems.

  • Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions

  • Must be a self-starter, be able to multi-task, and take advantage of opportunities and events to achieve results

  • Experience with design, requirements capture, development, and integration of complex military avionics software systems

  • Experience integrating 3rd party software components

  • Experience with open system standards, especially FACE

  • Experience with simulation environments, CoreSIM and CSE a plus
