Pay Grade: Trainee Matrix

Starting Hourly Wage: $16.08 (will receive an increase every six months as specified in the apprenticeship agreement)

Work Schedule

Appointment Type: Full-Time; 12 Months

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. (Occasional weekend and evenings)

Job Details:

Primary Function: Under direct supervision, receives work experience and related training instruction in all phases of the HVAC occupation, including safe work practices, necessary to develop the skill and proficiency of a skilled HVAC professional. During the four year term of apprenticeship, appropriately 576 hours of related training instruction through Hawkeye Community College and approximately 8000 hours of on-the-job learning is required before a completion certificate is awarded. Individual is required to sign an apprenticeship agreement in order to participate in the program.

Position Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalency prior to completion of the apprenticeship; possess a speaking and reading ability as essential for personal and coworker safety on the job; and ability to read and understand written or oral instructions. Must be at least 18 years old.

Upon completion of the apprenticeship program, must be able to meet the minimum eligibility requirements for the Environmental Systems Mechanic I classification which is ‘four years of experience in refrigeration, heating or air conditioning work, including apprenticeship; has refrigeration certificate of at least type 2; and must possess a valid driver’s license and meet University’s Fleet Safety Program’. brary work experience, or a combination of related work experience, undergraduate education, and/or post high school library training totaling three years.
