IOWA ARMY NATIONAL GUARD - TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION

Responsibilities

As a TARGET SYSTEMS REPAIRER, WG-2601-8 your duties are below; Inspects and tests Army Standard Integrated Target systems, using wiring diagrams, schematics, technical manuals and test equipment (i.e., voltmeters, multiplexers, miniature consoles and digital multi-meters). Visually examines systems and systems components to identify and troubleshoot causes of malfunctions. Determines if causes of malfunctions are electrical (AC/DC, power outage, incorrect voltage), electronic (signal), mechanical, or hydraulic. Isolates faulty components and determines extent of repair or replacement required to restore power, signal or correct mechanical operation. Repairs or replaces exposed, broken, cut or damaged cables. Removes, replaces and adjusts damaged or inoperable target system's components. Installs thermal target equipment to include, but not be limited to, AC or DC powered thermal heating panels. Tests and troubleshoots thermal target panels, using a digital multi-meter equipped with a thermal probe. Operates and maintains laser interface devices designed to be used in conjunction with existing target systems employed on ranges. Performs routine flatwork welding repair to metal mechanical target mounting devices. Uses an oxygen/acetylene welder to heat-treat and straighten target-mounting arms, cut repair splices and to join metal surfaces to repair live fire damage. Installs and recharges batteries and maintains charging equipment. Hooks up battery charging system, inspects batteries for serviceability and ensures proper operation of battery charging equipment. Develops training scenarios for down range target systems, using the computer controlled integrated target systems control panel. Monitors control panel for correct operation, reports, and corrects malfunctions. Prepares demolitions in conjunction with radio and/or computer controlled target system mechanisms. Places electrically fired blasting caps on explosive charges, such as hand grenade simulators and flash artillery simulators for use in training exercises. Command detonates explosives during live fire exercises. Ensures range personnel and students observe explosive safety procedures. Operates and maintains equipment used for such purposes as berm repair and maintenance, grass cutting, snow removal, or otherwise maintaining the range area in order to keep ranges operational to the maximum extent possible on a year round basis. May be required to perform range maintenance duties on other ranges. Performs other duties as assigned. DD1142000

NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED: This is an excepted position that requires military membership in a compatible military assignment in the Iowa Army National Guard. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of this excepted position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Experience or training which demonstrates the ability to use and maintain electronic and electrical equipment, components, and ability to perform repairs and testing. Candidates must have knowledge of standard troubleshooting techniques in order to troubleshoot for common recurring kinds of defects. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: WG-2601-8: Must have experience in the following: Experience or training demonstrating knowledge of electronics, test equipment, measuring devices, and equipment used to assemble, disassemble, clean, replace, or adjust target systems and control panels. Proficient in reading and interpreting technical manuals, specifications, and wiring diagrams to aid in minor troubleshooting and repairs of defected equipment.

Education

Substitution of Education for Specialized Experience - To receive credit for Education, you must provide college transcripts to support your Educational claims.

Additional Information

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENT: Employment is subject to attaining and maintaining a secret clearance as required by this position. If the selectee does not possess the applicable security clearance when hired, application must be made within 30 days of the start date. Failure to make application for the required security clearance will result in termination of employment.

Failure to complete NGB prescribed courses at the PEC for new FTS personnel within the first year of employment may be cause for reassignment or termination of FTS.
