Assistant Buyer - Purchasing Associate

Praxair Distribution, Inc., a subsidiary of Praxair, Inc., a Fortune 300 company that supplies atmospheric, process, specialty gases, high-performance coatings, and related services & technologies is seeking an Assistant Buyer for our Ankeny, IA facility.

The Assistant Buyer will negotiate with vendors for the purchase of hard good materials, supplies, equipment and services. The Assistant Buyer will also ensure purchasing activities are performed in a way that allows Praxair to consistently meet the demands of its customers at the best value - balancing cost, quality and guarantee.

Assistant Buyer - Purchasing Associate

  • Negotiates with vendors for hard goods, negotiating the best possible price and guarantee.

  • Constantly evaluates vendors and develops new supply sources where vendors are inadequate.

  • Examines bids and makes awards according to value, price, quality, and Praxair objectives.

  • Analyzes vendor lead-time, customer buying practices and "total" product cost.

  • Maintains procedures and systems to effectively and efficiently manage backorders and timely delivery systems.

  • Ensures timely and accurate cycle counts. Ensures daily program consistency. Effectively reconciles and researches discrepancies.

  • Returns materials timely & issues credits timely.

  • Works closely with warehouse and receiving to ensure proper inventory arrived.

  • Traces overdue backorders from open purchase orders.

  • Follows environmental and safety regulations and acts in compliance.

  • Complies with corporate guidelines on business ethics.

  • Manages and maintain proper inventory levels for all company branches based on both actual usage and forecasted usage, while also considering the company's commitments to vendors and customers.

  • Works cooperatively with inventory control employees and Accounts Payable.

  • Reviews replenishment action reports and places purchase orders with vendors in a timely fashion.

  • Maintains and/or modifies the inventory master files as necessary to allow for stock levels that meet demand and reduce the likelihood of backorders.

  • Reviews and analyze each backorder report.

  • Identifies dead or slow moving stock and facilitate its movement out of inventory.

  • Maintains professional and positive relationships with our vendors and their personnel.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School/GED required, Bachelor's Degree preferred

  • Proficient in MS Office

  • 2 years Purchasing experience
