Danaher Corporation Technician II, Production Maintenance in Ames, Iowa


The primary role of this position is to provide technical support for manufacturing production equipment. The Technician identifies equipment / machine problems and implements corrective actions leading to continuous improvements. This role is responsible for installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of production equipment, to include preventive and predictive maintenance techniques.


  • Perform maintenance, installation, machining, and improvement tasks required.

  • Provide training and documentation as needed for end users.

  • Perform or coordinate review and calibration of equipment.

  • Perform troubleshooting of problems.

  • Provide or request purchased tools and equipment as authorized.

  • Coordinate the implementation of tools, jigs, and fixtures as needed.

  • Some positions conduct machining of parts to support machine maintenance or Kaizen activities.

  • Coordinate and implement corrective actions as needed.

  • Coordinate and complete preventive maintenance activities.

  • Participate on Kaizen Events.

  • Required to work off-shift or Saturday, as needed, to support production or to maximize up-time on machinery/processes.

Other Non-Essential Functions:

  • Other duties as assigned.


  • HS Diploma or Equivalent required; Associates Degree in related field preferred

  • 3 or more years related experience (i.e.: mechanical installation, machining, etc. as it relates to the job) in an appropriate manufacturing, engineering, or facility environment.


  • Ability to troubleshoot/problem solve in a structured, logical manner.

  • Demonstrated ability to read and comprehend drawings and other technical information

  • required to perform the assigned task work.

  • The ability to perform or coordinate preventive maintenance activities.

  • Combination of office skills and hands-on activities: required to lift and move equipment and materials up to 50 lbs. daily.

  • Ability to frequently work independently and can meet daily department goals

The employee must frequently lift, carry, push or pull up to 50 pounds and/or occasionally lift, carry, push or pull up to 75 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures and work space restrictions.

The noise level in the work environment is occasionally loud.

Employees will be required to wear the proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) which may include: eye, hearing and respiratory protection, protective smock, steel toe shoes, gloves, hard hats, or face shields. Contact lenses may not be allowed in some areas.
