Summary of Duties and Responsibilities

The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS) at Iowa State University is currently seeking qualified candidates for a Systems Support Specialist III or IV.

This position will be assigned to either the LAS IT North or LAS IT South regional team. This position provide system support and server administration services to the faculty, staff, and students in one of more departments of LAS.

General scope of responsibilities include: hardware/software deployment, maintenance, and troubleshooting; network troubleshooting and problem reporting; departmental needs analysis and technology deployments; file server structure, permissions, and work flow analysis; end-users training and assistance; standards and security compliance.

Additionally, as part of the LAS IT North or LAS IT South team, this position will contribute to technical projects in support of multiple LAS departments and labs.

In addition to the duties above, the System Support Specialist IV, will be involved with a significantly larger amount of LAS-wide project duties.

The successful candidate will possess strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree and 1 year of related experience; OR a combination of education and related experience totaling 5 years.

Supplemental Required Education and Experience

The above requirements are for a Systems Support Specialist III.

For the Systems Support Specialist IV: Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of related experience; OR a Master’s degree.

*Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) field; *Experience providing desktop support to end users *Experience with thin-client client/server networks *Experience with deploying and maintaining labs *Experience with computer security *Experience with server virtualization technologies *Experience with large-scale system administration *Experience with automation technologies like SCCM, Casper, RHN Satellite *Experience with administration of DNS, LDAP, Windows AD *Experience with scripting: PowerShell, Bash, PHP, Perl, Python *Experience writing shell scripts in Linux/UNIX and experience with other scripting languages such as Perl, JavaScript, ASP, PHP, and/or Python *Experience with Microsoft Access and other MS Office applications in general *Experience with Adobe Creative Suite packages *Experience with server virtualization technologies
