Summary of Duties and Responsibilities
Facilities Planning and Management (FP&M) at Iowa State University is seeking candidates for the position of Supervisor of Custodial Services. This position supervises up to 30 employees and leads custodial servicing for up to 20 university buildings. This position is the frontline support for custodial employees and focuses on customer service, work performance, transparency, safety, and quality. As frontline support, this position leads the resolution of challenges facing employees as well as the resolution of customer concerns. This position communicates and interacts regularly with employees and customers.
Position responsibilities include: employee supervision; personnel and attendance management; staffing; ongoing training and support for employees; overtime management; performance management; building cleanliness; documentation and records management; standard operating procedures; safety; quality; customer satisfaction; communication at all levels; process analysis and improvements; relationship building; conflict resolution. Position must be able to: perform all custodial duties, keep up to date on university and FP&M policies and procedures, and communicate effectively.
The successful candidate will have strong skills in organization, problem solving, conflict resolution, and project management; be detail-oriented; be self-motivated; and be able to work independently along with working productively in a team setting. Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills are critical for the success of this position. This position must effectively interact with a diverse group of employees, customers, external business partners and vendors, and other FP&M personnel. To be successful in this position requires the ability to: perform in a collaborative, transparent supervisory environment; lead and motivate a diverse team towards a common goal; and perform with a high level of professionalism at all times. This position is under the general supervision of the Manager of Custodial Services.

Two years of custodial experience or related building and facilities maintenance, including supervisory experience for a minimum of six months; supervision to include assigning daily work activities, inspecting and monitoring quality or work, and scheduling and coordinating work activities.
