Job Description:Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

The Division of Materials Science and Engineering at Ames Laboratory, a Department of Energy National Laboratory, is searching for a qualified Postdoctoral Research Associate.

The Postdoctoral Research Associate will be in theoretical condensed matter physics, with a focus on the analytical and numerical modeling of magnetic and electronic properties based on electronic structure methods. The project is supported by Basic Energy Sciences (BES), DOE. The research group specializes in growing and theoretically studying materials, with a history of magnetic elements and compounds. The work will require a firm knowledge of quantum mechanics, and the ability to apply it to understand magnetic and electronic properties of promising new materials. The individual will present and report research results in addition to publishing scientific results in peer-reviewed journals in a timely manner.

The successful candidate will conduct both independent and collaborative research. The individual must be self-motivated and possess the ability to work on multiple tasks in a limited amount of time both independently and with team members. The successful candidate must possess strong verbal and written communication skills in order to collaborate effectively within a team environment.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. completed prior to start date.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics or closely related field.

  • Demonstrated experience in analytical modeling of electronic and magnetic properties.

  • Demonstrated experience with ab initio methods, experience in methods beyond density functional theory.

  • Demonstrated publication record.
