Facebook is seeking a forward thinking experienced Engineer to join our Data Center Site Operations team. Our data centers, and the tens of thousands of servers installed in them, are the foundation upon which our rapidly scaling infrastructure efficiently operates and upon which our innovative services are delivered. Facebook is at the leading edge of the global data center industry both in terms of how data centers are designed and operated. This person should enjoy working in a fast-paced environment where adaptability and flexibility will be key to their success. This position is full-time and will be based in Altoona, Iowa.
We seek an experienced data center professional with advanced hands-on technical skills in Data Center Tape Backup Infrastructure. Performing complex projects in a large-scale distributed data center environment is a core competency of this individual.
Work as a technical lead globally, with cross-functional teams on large-scale data center projects and initiatives involving large-scale data center tape operations
Partner globally with Data Center Infrastructure teams to efficiently scale our data center tape operations
Recommends and influences the implementation of Tape Operations policies and procedures
Find opportunities to globally improve and innovate in key areas of data center tape operations involving including documentation and standardization, best practices, maintenance strategies, tooling and automation
Leverage existing metrics and define new ones to support troubleshooting global issues of a complex nature, and proactively analyze data to identify risks and opportunities for efficiency gains
Serve as subject matter expert for tape operations, tape media, library technologies and relevant use cases (HSM, backup, etc.)
Ability to manage vendor teams, supervise daily operations, and hands-on work that might be required
Comfortable working individually as well as in small and large groups on a regular basis
Ability to participate in an on-call rotation and occasionally work nights and weekends
Ability to travel up to 30% required
BS, BEng or BA in technical field or commensurate experience
5+ years of technical experience in a data center environment
Tape handling and tape management experience
Experience with IBM tape library technology and infrastructure
Experience with operational continuity and disaster recovery operations using tape
Experience in processing and analyzing large sets of data and leverage them for change
Knowledge in Data Center Operations, including supply chain, logistics and asset management
Experience managing multiple projects within the same time schedule, and time and project management experience
