Description

  • This position will work in a commercial business environment. The majority of work is indoor and will assist with maintaining the cable infrastructure for data center settings. The position works for an enterprise level company to provide services including telecommunications, data, internet, security, and digital workplace infrastructure. This is a start to an IT-trade career, in which you can work your way up through the ranks. You will assist with installing network services as well as decommissioning existing infrastructure.

Shift & Hours

  • Start Date: May 13, 2024

  • Monday-Friday, 1 Saturday per month

  • 1st shift core hours

Overview

You will assist higher level technicians and team leads in building out cable networks. You will be trained and expected to work independently in:

  • Pulling Cable/Fiber

  • Laying Fiber/Cable

  • Learning Color Codes

  • Rerouting & Mounting

  • Punchdown and Terminations

  • Installing Cable Trays and Pathways

  • Building Server Racks

Day-to-Day

  • Learn to follow blueprints from supervisors direction.

  • Perform pre-termination procedures: organize, form, dress cables and determine length, slack and label cables.

  • Dispose of old/outdated devices.

  • Install grounding for racks, equipment and cable as required.

  • Terminate low-voltage devices.

  • Drop cable down a wall using fish tape or other method.

  • Install a work area outlet for floor (i.e. monument), and wall (i.e. box eliminator).

  • Route cable through data center.

  • Suspend and support cable correctly: Cable tray, J-hook, D-rings, Bridal rings, Trapeze.

  • Perform fire-stopping procedures on fire walls, install sleeves, pull cable through sleeves and core penetration.

Additional

  • 2 years working in construction, telecommunications, or electrical

  • Lift up to 100lbs

  • Work at heights, use a ladder

  • HS Diploma or GED Equivalent
