       Position Title: Electronic Technician FLSA Status: Non-exempt Reports to: Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds Hours: 8.0 Days: 261 QUALIFICATIONS Requires the following (or equivalent qualifications):

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Four years of successful full time paid employment in electrical field at the journeyman level

  • Possession of a valid driver license

    POSITION PURPOSE To perform skilled work in the installation, maintenance, repair and servicing of electrical, heating, ventilation, air conditioning and mechanical equipment of school facilities. Efforts are directed to reduce the occurrence of breakdowns, keeping minor malfunctions from causing greater problems by continuous inspection, regularly scheduled preventive maintenance and service work. To perform duties in a helpful manner promoting positive public relations with students, general public, and other employees. DEMONSTRATED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to serve flexible hours to ensure completion of district goals

  • Skill in the use and care of hand tools, power tools, machines and equipment

  • Knowledge of the federal, state, and local codes, occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trades

  • Knowledge of electrical, steam and mechanical equipment

  • Knowledge of safety precautions necessary to perform operations providing protection to public, co-workers, and students

  • Ability to prepare rough sketches and estimate the cost of electrical work

  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions

    PERFORMANCE ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Maintain strict confidentiality.

  • Use instruments to test and evaluate performance of systems, repair or replace valves, thermostats, and other parts.

  • Install, repair, maintain, clean and replace standard electrical system components, motors, lighting units, switches, lines, receptacles, fixtures, and other items.

  • Troubleshoot and repair fire alarm systems.

  • Inspect, maintain, make repairs to electrical equipment, appliances (washers, dryers, dishwashers, etc.), light fixtures, heating, air conditioning and ventilating equipment, controls, central clock systems, bell systems, controls, door controls, gate controls and marquee signage.

  • Perform maintenance on motors, fans, air conditioners, air compressors, and other equipment.

  • Make preventive maintenance inspections.

  • Make necessary maintenance inspections, keep records, and make reports as required.

  • Investigate maintenance and operational problems by conferring with building occupants.

  • Keep tools, materials and equipment clean and in good working conditions.

  • Repair and install clock/bell systems including master clocks and secondary clocks.

  • Repair and install intercom systems including main console and talk back units.

  • Work with other personnel to troubleshoot and repair boiler power burners, boiler mounted controls and return water systems.

  • Advise Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds which work should be performed by outside contractors.

  • Recommend purchases of electrical supplies and equipment to Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds.

  • Perform all job duties following accepted safety procedures.

  • Assist in snow removal.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Keep an open line of communication with Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds.

    PHYSICAL, MENTAL, AND VISUAL EFFORT Certification of good health signed by licensed physician at the beginning of employment and as required by law. Ability to lift and/or carry 50 pounds, ability to push in excess of 100 pounds, to stand and/or walk during the assigned working hours. Ability to work from ladders, scaffolding, etc. Frequent reaching, climbing, stretching, stooping, and bending. Continuous speaking, hearing, and visual effort. Concentration required. Numerous unique and complex tasks involving manual dexterity. WORKING CONDITIONS Environmental conditions vary with sudden temperature changes, noise levels, some exposure to fumes, odors, dust, chemicals, and other irritants. Stress associated with work pace and pressure. Perform work in all district locations. Travel required. Exposed to hazards of the road when traveling. Exposed to hazards of operating equipment.
